Our approach is firmly rooted in strong, evidence-informed practice, drawing on guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), the Department for Education’s Reading Framework, and the National Curriculum. We provide high-quality, systematic phonics teaching from the earliest stages, ensuring that children develop secure decoding skills as the foundation for reading. Alongside this, we place a strong emphasis on language development, exposing pupils to rich vocabulary, high-quality texts, and meaningful discussion to deepen their understanding.

Beyond the mechanics of reading, we strive to foster a genuine love of books. We promote a vibrant reading culture throughout the school, where stories, texts, and reading experiences are celebrated and shared. Classrooms are rich in literature, reading is modelled by adults, and children are encouraged to explore a wide range of genres and authors. Through this, we aim not only to teach children how to read, but to inspire them to choose to read—for pleasure, for curiosity, and for life.
